The Biggie- A new attitude for 2014

Ok, so I'm a bit behind the times, but one thing I would really like to do this year is focus more on the positive things in my life. I would like to have a daily list of at least five good things that happened each day, though I will allow for more once I get more used to thinking this way. I'm going to start with yesterday because it was a big day, and today has hardly started...

January 3rd
  1. A stayed dry overnight for the fifth night in a row. As a reward we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and got her a new bed set featuring Hello Kitty, or Hello Cat as she is known in our house.
  2. While A was at dance class, I was able to run to Wal-Mart to return a pair of pants I got for my new part time job. After that was accomplished I was able to get more hair clips and pony-tail holders because apparently those defy the "matter cannot be created nor destroyed" law of physics. I was able to get back in time to watch the last five minutes of dance class. I count this as a big achievement since dance is only 45 minutes long.
  3. During those last 5 minutes, I was able to watch as the girls went around and did their favorite dance step. A tried to do a step I had taught her over break (I'm no hoofer, but I figured a cramp roll might be better than the constant jumping up and down in her shoes- at least it's a step).
  4. After dance our neighbor came over with her two girls, 4 and 6. The three girls exchanged Christmas presents and played, while moms talked about the potential for co-home-schooling.
  5. When neighbors left, we had packages from my brother-in-law and sister-in-law-to-be which included a giant stuffed Clydesdale for A. While that's not for me, I always enjoy her reactions to getting packages and new things, she gets to excited and is so thankful for whatever it is. No matter what it is, it was "just what she always wanted." We also had another package from Paradise Fibers with some wonderful yarn I had ordered to make an amazing coat (all will be chronicled at my other blog 10000Spin).
  6. Thanks to the need to have Hello Cat ready for bed, I was able to wash all the clothes in the laundry room. Folding and dealing with clothes elsewhere in the house is another matter, but we're focusing on the positives.
  7. I finished a book I had started a very long time ago, The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook. It's a massive book, containing information about the history, fineness, and usage of over 200 animal fibers, including a plethora of sheep breeds, several goats, a camelid family discussion, musk ox, dog, cat, mink, horse, cow, and yak.

None of these things were earth shattering, but they made for a nice day, and now I'm finding the squabbles and rough parts of the day just don't seem to matter as much.

New Glasses

We had such a good day yesterday! We spent the day, at least partially outside, ok it was about 20 minutes, but considering it was about 20 degrees, I think that's pretty good. Anyway, we were outside while A tried her first and brand new sled on our little hill. Didn't quite get a picture of that one.

Then once Daddy came home from work, it was off to the eye doctor's to get our new glasses. A was getting her first pair, as was I, Daddy's had them forever.

She was so excited. She's cleaned them with the cloth about 50 times. Daddy and A had a very long discussion about how to handle glasses during dinner, and she had them on almost as soon as she popped out of bed this morning.

Here are a few of the things she has said about them
"I can see things bigger and straighter."
"I am proud of my glasses."
"I won [my glasses] because I was the prettiest."

I would say that they are a hit. :)

Little Blue Riding Hood by A

Little Blue Riding Hood lived with her grandma. She wobbled when she stood on one leg. She saw a cow. When she looked in a mirror, she saw Little Blue Riding Hood.
She just poked herself with a needle. She played with a ball of yarn with a cat, and then she played Slammy, by baking stuff in a toy kitchen with toy food and then she gave it to a customer.
Then she got dressed. She ate chocolate and cookie. She played with a nothing because she was playing Hide and Seek with someone. Then she was eating kitty food, it tasted good though.
The kitties said meow meow, and the grandma gave the kitties more food. Grandma was ok with LBRH eating kitty food.

Thermometers

A took my temperature today. I either have a temperature of 4920, 2094 (we're still working on reading from left to right) or 1.

Revelations

Apparently now deoderant keeps your armpits from combusting...
"Mom what happens if you don't use that protecting thing for your arm?"
"I don't know. What protecting stuff?"
"The stuff that goes under your arms?"
"Oh, it just keeps you from getting stinky."
"No, it keeps the fire from coming out from under your arms."

Sorry TARDIS

We were at the grocery store today and I was telling A that we needed to hurry since we were going to the library before we went home (it's 35 degrees outside so I wasn't worried about the food). We had a few minutes to kill, but when it was time to hit the library, A asked me if we were out of time, I said no, and she responded with, "Does the car go faster than time?"
